About Percentages

A percentage (from Latin per centum, "by a hundred") is a number or ratio expressed as a fraction of 100. It is often denoted using the percent sign (%).

X% of Y — Multiply Y by X and divide by 100: (X × Y) / 100
X is what % of Y — Divide X by Y and multiply by 100: (X / Y) × 100
X is Y% of what — Divide X by Y and multiply by 100: (X / Y) × 100
Percentage change — Divide the difference by the original and multiply by 100: ((Y - X) / X) × 100
